Meet the Team – Introducing globalVCard’s Mary Beth Fisher

Mary Beth Fisher joined our globalVCard family in 2014 as a National Sales Executive. Since that time, she has branded herself as the “heart and soul” of the company – providing a cheery disposition and warm hug to every new team member who joins us. Today, Mary Beth is sharing her story.

So Mary Beth, tell me a little about yourself and your role here!

I live in New York with my husband and two children.  I feel grateful to live and raise our family in such a beautiful part of our country.  We love hosting family and friends and sharing a slice of the “Big Apple!”  Originally from the “Mini Apple,” Minneapolis/St. Paul, I am the youngest of five siblings, so I also spend a lot of time traveling to be with my family and expose my little “New Yorkers” to the land of sky blue waters and the Midwest mentality that helps keep us all grounded.

As an active volunteer with several local charities, including Pelham Art Center and My Sister’s Place, I am able to give my time and efforts to help make a difference in our community with organizations that need my help and that matter to me.  When I contribute, I feel stretched and able to give more of myself and this helps me show my kids that we all have a responsibility to give back and get involved.

I have 25 years of professional experience connecting great companies with innovative services to help their employees work smarter.  I have worked at both American Express and MasterCard and am now privileged to have a role on the sales team here at globalVCard.

Why globalVCard? What attracted you to the company?

When I was employed at MasterCard, I worked with globalVCard directly as a partner for over a year.  I loved the progressive and collaborative culture at globalVCard and was eager to help companies ditch the paper check process in accounts payable with an improved, secure, and simple alternative to pay their vendors.

I was impressed by the caliber of people that worked at globalVCard and saw it truly as a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to join a team of smart, driven individuals actively changing the payments landscape for the better.  I wanted to up my game and get started right away.  I still have so much to learn and am always motivated by the energy of my colleagues and clients that push me to be better every day.

How do you stay connected, energized and motivated while working remotely and traveling?

I am never more than a phone call, email, text, LinkedIn message or face-to-face conversation away from someone who needs our help and will benefit from the time savings and revenue generation we provide.  I stay plugged in as I am interdependent on my colleagues that work with me to educate our customers and get them started making change in their payments process.  As a technology company, it is imperative we have people that simplify the process and make the entire experience – from start to spend – positive for our customers and our company.  I feel lucky to be surrounded by like-minded people that have a light in their eye and a desire in their gut to help our clients fully benefit from what we offer and work tirelessly to improve our client experience with every customer and with each and every call.  We have a mindset to restart often to remain competitive and are encouraged to create a sense of urgency to get the most out of every day.

What advice do you have for people that are just starting their careers in sales?

In this cluttered, attention deficit era, every aspect of business and life in general demands stewarding or selling something truly unique and valuable.  Go with gusto with something you strongly believe in and surround yourself with people that will help you live up to your potential.  My wish for the future is that more people would embrace sales and realize that some of the best ideas and solutions don’t cost us anything.  I love being a “connector” and since a role in sales always puts you closest to the customers you serve, I know I am in the right spot and this is where I fit.

What is the most surprising thing about the payables space you’ve encountered during your career?

I am always surprised at the dominant paper based culture of the business world and amazed at the loss of time and money with a system still flooded with paper checks.  Our personal lives are already way beyond cash and check and the time is now to bring these updated efficiencies and security to our companies as well.

How do you balance your career and your family?

As a working mom with two young children, I am more often than not in a constant, ever-evolving state of forward motion!  I am “growing up” as a mother right alongside my kids and am grateful for the creative life of purpose I have making a difference in the work day and lives of others.

Children speak honestly with no filter and often shed light on things we didn’t notice. Have your kids offered you any sage advice or valuable life lessons?

Every day I learn from my kids how to be their mom and rise up to the best inside me.  Their innocence and youth keeps me young in body, mind, and spirit.  They are my jewels!  My role as mom is hands down the most important job of my life.

Kids naturally live in the moment and are present in the now.  They help me unplug, text less and stay low tech so I can be fully present to them during these fast-fleeting magic years.  My presence is the best gift I can give them and the best way for me to authentically and fully connect.  I am trying to be more mindful of this in all areas of my life, not just with my kids.
